Steve’s Tyre Bay performs wheel balancing on domestic, commercial and industrial vehicles. During this service, our experienced tyre fitters ensure the weight of wheels and tyres remains even around the axle. We use the latest machinery, along with our own meticulous eye for detail, to sense the smallest weight differential. If your vehicle’s wheels and tyres have an uneven weight distribution, our wheel balancing service restores them back to normal, ensuring a smooth and safe driving experience.
Based in Bobbing, we welcome motorists from across the Kent and Medway region. Our reputation for trusted, superior results has seen us become the obvious choice for wheel balancing in Chatham, Maidstone, Rainham, Rochester and Sittingbourne.

What is Wheel Balancing?
Having ascertained that your wheels and tyres have an uneven weight distribution, we then conduct wheel balancing. This involves the addition of small offsetting weights to specially chosen points around the rim of the effected wheel(s), countering the weight of any inconsistencies.
In short, if we identify an imbalance on one side of the wheel, we add weights to the opposite side, evening out the overall weight distribution.
Whenever tyre fitters first mount a new wheel onto the axel with a tyre, they balance it. However, as soon as the vehicle hits the road, these perfectly balanced wheels slowly slide out of balance again. Every corner and bump has an effect on balance, as does tyre wear. Over time, your wheels will inevitably fall out of balance again, so it’s important to undertake regular wheel balancing services.
Whether you drive the roads in our immediate surroundings of Bobbing and Sittingbourne, or in neighbouring locations such as Chatham, Maidstone, Rainham and Rochester, we recommend staying vigilant for the following signs that indicate unbalanced wheels:
- Uneven Wear on Tyres
- Worsened Fuel Economy
- Vibrations in Seats or Floorboard
- Steering Wheel Vibrations
The latter point holds especially true when driving over 40 to 50mph with imbalanced front wheels and tyres.
The longer you drive with unbalanced wheels, the more damage you inflict on tyres, wheel bearings and other wheel components as well as the suspension system. This means avoiding wheel balancing at the first signs of an issue can eventually lead to a much bigger problem that costs a lot more to fix.
